![]() I'm not "dead set" on a cam change and I ran a 3.55 rear for a couple months and it was just not the sweet spot, although it was a vast improvement over 2.79 and a tested 3.00. If the tune is dead on, another thought would be stepping down the rear gears to something like 3.55. If you are dead set on replacing a cam, my choice would be looking at something like a comp 270H. What about going to injection to mellow it out a bit? Stock injection is pretty common around junkyards if you wanted to piece it together or you could go aftermarket like a Mass-Flo depending on your budget. The B303 isn't that aggressive of a cam, and the overall combo is pretty mellow. I have to agree with frdnut thats a pretty mild combo that should be a pleasure to drive on a daily sounds like something is out of tune making it run erratically.ġ>From all my research, I would tend to agree, but I get stinky rich exhaust at idleįirst off. I would start with the basics and get it tuned up and running right, and find the problem that is messing up your performance.Swapping to the stock cam is only going to kill power, and will not fix your driveability issues, because something else is the culprit. With that carb, intake, heads, and cam,it should be one snappy, torquey, strong performing engine.By the same token,it should have real good manners and not overheat, buck in traffic,or pull other weirdness on you. What is your timing set at?Initial, and total? What rpm is it idling at?How much vacuum is it pulling?Something is definitely wrong if a combo this conservative is giving you garbage fuel mileage and peaky, high strung,un-fun type performance. Is your distributor old and worn out?I've encountered problems due to a junk distributor before. What are your complaints?.Perhaps it is a tuning issue.I have to agree with frdnut thats a pretty mild combo that should be a pleasure to drive on a daily sounds like something is out of tune making it run erratically. >99-ish 5.0/"P" heads/Ford Motorsports "Explorer" engine with stock hypereutectic pistons/unsure of compression ratio, likely about 9:1 or a little more according to Ford Racing. Not to mention, fuel mileage is kind of atrocious at 68 Coupe The excellent power of this engine is only enjoyed with my foot all the way in it (truly a treasure to behold) but this accounts for less than 1% of 1% of my driving and it appears that the stoutness of this engine combo makes the car not that much of an all around pleasure to drive, especially in traffic. I don't race and I drive my car daily in the extreme summer heat of Las Vegas with A/C all compounded by crappy fuel blends. While the car screams and is faster than a raped ape, it is just too much for my use. I "over built/over designed" my engine back in 2000, due to lack of knowledge and understanding. ![]()
